The day begins at the ski center at the Osorno Volcano, where we ride chairlifts to an altitude of 1,670 meters above sea level for the impressive view of Lake Llanquihue, the second largest lake in Chile.

The route continues along the eastern edge of the lake to the historic town of Puerto Octay, founded by German immigrants in 1891. Here we will see historic homes dating to the German colonization period, such as the Niklitschek, Wulf, Añazco, and Werner homes and Hotel Hasse.

We will continue along the western side of the lake to visit the emblematic city of Frutillar, famous for its summer music festival. Here we will visit the German Museum to learn about the history of the colonization that began 160 years ago and that continues to have a strong influence in the area. Here visitors have the opportunity to taste the area’s typical dishes that blend German and Chilean cuisines.

The lake route continues around the Punta Larga Penninsula to the mouth of the Maullín River, the lake’s only outlet and that gives rise to one of Chile’s most important wetlands.

We will end the day visiting the beautiful city of Puerto Varas, Lake Llanquehue’s primary urban zone and southern Chile’s tourism capital.
