This program is ideal for history and culture lovers with an interest in learning more about the German colonization along the banks of Lake Llanquihue in the mid-19 th century. The day begins with a visit to the Antonio Felmer Museum in Nueva Braunau, nine kilometers west of Puerto Varas.

During this guided visit, the owner will explain little known details about the process of colonization in the area through the demonstration of objects related to art, architecture, agriculture, and music that will take us on a journey through time toward the German legacy.

The next stop is Frutillar, the historic city by the lake founded by German immigrants in 1856 and declared a typical zone in 2013. Here we will clearly see the influence of German heritage in the local buildings and customs. We will also visit the Theater by the Lake, which is considered one of South America’s most important cultural centers and the southernmost international theater in the world.

The theater is host to the annual Frutillar Music Weeks, a historic festival that invites musicians from around the world. While at the theater, visitors can also see art exhibits or enjoy a cup of coffee with a view of Mt. Tronador and the Osorno and Puntiagudo Volcanoes in the background.
